Biodiesel

National Biodiesel Ltd prides itself on producing quality biodiesel from the best feedstock- Soybeans. For more information on Soybeans click here

Soybiodiesel® logo

Soybiodiesel® is the registered trademark for B100 or 100% soy biodiesel marketed by the National Biofuels Group.  What is Soybiodiesel?

Key consumers of Soybiodiesel® include urban and public transport fleets, harbour and marine operators in ecologically sensitive locations, underground mines, power stations, and users of machinery or vehicles in confined or closed areas.

Soybiodiesel® delivers a much lower cloud point than biodiesel produced from animal fats (tallow), palm oil and used cooking oils. This means it can be used at much lower temperatures (down to -8° C). Soydiesel and its combustion emissions also have a pleasant odour.

Only 20% of the bean is crushed for oil to produce high quality Soybiodiesel®, with the remaining 80% forming a high protein product called soybean meal - a staple feedstuff of poultry, swine and cattle, thus adding to food security.

Soydiesel® is the registered trademark for our soy biodiesel sold in blends from B5 to B50. Key consumers of Soydiesel® include national, provincial and local government fleets, wholesalers and distributors of blended soy biodiesel.

Soydiesel® offers the benefits of biodiesel blended with petroleum diesel such as operability in extreme cold climates.

Biodiesel Background

Biodiesel is a renewable alternative to petroleum-based diesel fuel. It can be manufactured from vegetable oils such as soy, rapeseed (canola), palm, linseed, and coconut oils; used cooking oil; and animal fats. Petroleum-based diesel is produced from crude mineral fossil oil.

  • Compatible with existing delivery systems
Users and suppliers of biodiesel do not require any major changes to the existing fuel distribution or storage networks. It is more then twice as safe to store and use, having more than double the flash point of conventional diesel.

Biodiesel is commonly mixed with petroleum-based diesel to create a Biodiesel blend. Pure biodiesel is commonly labelled B100 and other common blends are B5 for 5% biodiesel, B20 for 20% biodiesel and B50 for 50% biodiesel.

  • Better for Engines
Biodiesel lubricates moving parts more than regular diesel and helps clean diesel engines, while giving similar performance.

  • Better for the Environment
Biodiesel is almost four times more [fossil] energy efficient than mineral diesel when the entire production and combustion chain is considered.

Biodiesel is non-toxic being 10 times less toxic than common table salt. It is also highly biodegradable, breaking down at a rate similar to sugar.

There is a 78.5% reduction in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions when using Soybiodiesel® considered over the life cycle.

Whats more, a number of drastic emission reductions occur at the tailpipe when using Soybiodiesel® in place of mineral diesel, including:

    • 95% less Carcinogenic compounds,
    • 100% elimination of Sulphur Dioxide (SO2),
    • 37% less un-burnt Hydro Carbons,
    • 46% less Carbon Monoxide (CO),
    • 68% less particulate matter.

  • Better Value for Money
Because our biodiesel is made from soybean crops and not dwindling supplies of mineral oil, it can be delivered to the consumer at a price that is similar or more affordable than petroleum diesel. And because it is a higher quality fuel product it is much better value for money for consumers.
